Playtime!

One of Ebby and Lay's favorite things to do is chase the balls. Well, to be perfectly honest, Ebby chases the ball and Lay mostly carries her around while she chases him. Until recently we played ball at the park everyday with the occassional weekend trip to the beach (or B-E-A-C-H as we call it at home). Now we are back to walks everyday but we still make it to the beach!

Lay and Eb are both great swimmers and can retrieve balls from the water, but Ebby is by far the more willing of the two. Lay will get out there if its not too far (or if Daddy "helps" her along). I personally think she finds the water too cold (based on her bath temp preferences) but that doesn't stop Daddy from getting her out there. Ebby, on the other hand, will try to bring back as many balls as you can throw. He thinks its his job to rescue them all! :)

Eb/No's 1st Birthday!

Who needs a plate anyway?

Love my Lollipup! (Lazy girl!)

Ebby with the 'new' toy (which is now an old ratty toy)

Yesterday was Ebby's 1st bithday! I can't believe he is 1 already. He has gotten so big (as puppies tend to do) but hopefully he is done growing. He has turned into quite the handsome boy, that is for sure!

Mommy and Ebby spent the afternoon together and went to Lucky Dog in the Gaslamp district (downtown!). He got lots of attention there from the girl working and also the other shoppers. He was very well behaved and brought home a new collar and a toy to share with his sister. (Which is already in several pieces.)

Then we came home and Lay and Eb each got a Lollipup as a treat. Lollipups are like big cookies with a rawhide as the stick. They enjoyed the treats but neither seemed happy about their birthday hats. :(

PS- To Daddy: We missed you at the celebrations! *lick, lick* Can't wait to see you!

Mandalay's 3rd Birthday!

Yesterday (Aug 1st) was Mandalay's 3rd birthday! Due to techinical difficulties I had to wait until today to post this (sorry Lay!) but better late than never! Mandalay and Mommy spent the afternoon together shopping at Muttropolis where Lay got a very trendy new collar. It is black leather with big leather flowers in different colors. I am sure it will stand out in a crowd! She also enjoyed a yummy homemade turkey burger and a nice long walk before shopping. To top it off, she got two new chewies! Plus, Daddy, Grandma, Grandpa, Cousin Jake, Aunt Danielle, and Aunt Barbara all called to wish her a Happy Birthday! Aunt Barbara even sang! Wow- what a day! Mommy and Daddy still can't believe she is 3! But she looks better than ever- must be that San Diego air!

We made it

Well, we are finally settled in here in San Diego. Lay and Ebby LOVE their new yard. We already cut down a lot of the trees and shrubs so now they have even more room to play!

I think they are also enjoying the weather. It allows us to take daily walks without being cold and windy like in Monterey. Its also pretty flat here which is really nice! And once we get back from our walks they have some breakfast and then lay in the sun.

Ebby finished puppy school before we left Monterey. He did a great job at his graduation and we are very proud of him. He can be quite a show-off during a game of fetch (a game his sister never really cared for) but he knows the phrase "get the ball!".

I have posted a picture of the monkeys on the guest bed. They think it is their giant doggie bed, but they are nice enough to share when guests are in town. :)

Ebno goes to school!

I have exciting news- Ebno is starting puppy classes! Our first class/orientation was on Sunday (March 5th). He is taking a basic education class that uses positive re-enforcement techniques (he sure loves treats and praise!). I am very excited to be starting and our instructor Brittany is great!

Ebno is a smart little guy and has picked up on the commands we have taught him at home, but I feel he will benefit from the group environment. Also, he has a serious case of separation anxiety so hopefully this will give him the confidence he needs to feel more secure when we are away. No matter what I think this will be a great experience for him. Wish him luck!

If anyone out there has advice on how to ease separation anxiety I would love to hear it. I have tried moving/changing the crate we use, playing music, not playing music, etc. I have even started trying mild sedation and nothing seems to help. I always come home to a crate covered in drool and it makes me sad to think of how stressful this must be on him. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Mandalay & Eb/No

 Posted by Picasa

Welcome to SD Pups!

Blogging is a new thing for me, but I thought it would be fun to share my adventures (both exciting and dull) with everyone. We are a family of four- Kendra (aka Mommy), Bert (aka Daddy), and two canine kids named Mandalay and Ebno. (Lay is the brown and white, Ebby is the black and white).

Mandalay (or Lay as I like to call her) is 2 1/2. Bert found her as a puppy in Yuma, AZ and fell in love instantly. She is a great girl who loves to be pampered. We talk to her as if we expect to her respond back and sometimes she does! Her favorite color is red and her favorite song is Copacabana.

EbNo (or Ebby) is only about 6 months old. I found him at a local shelter and knew he was meant to be ours. We don't know what his story is before he went to the shelter but we can't imagine that anyone would give him up voluntarily. He is a sweet boy who likes to burrow under the blankets and snuggle up tight. His color is blue and his song is Margaritaville.

We currently live in the Central coast of CA, but are planning a move to San Diego this fall. We are looking forward to all of the great restaurants and beaches there. We can't wait to take Ebby to Dog Beach for the first time and let him really run and play with the other dogs. When we are not doting over the pups Bert and I enjoy running, SCUBA diving, sailing, and good food! We just celebrated our 2nd wedding anniversary and neither one of us can believe its already been so long! (But definitely good!)

I plan to post from time to time when I have fun pictures and things to share.
